The Friesians
Coyote Creek Ranch is proud to be one of the few North American Breeders of this truly rare and unique breed of
horses.

One of the most ancient European breed of horses, modern Friesians are direct descendants of the horses that carried medieval knights
into battle. After the Middle Ages their characteristic steppage gait, all black color, long manes and fetlocks made for a grand and
elegant presence as Coach Horses throughout the Royal Courts of Europe.

Their natural beauty is exemplary. High-set neck with outstanding crest; broad chest with lightly accentuarted croup; relatively small
head and ears; big, expressive eyes; and strong legs with good bone structure resulting in an enduring and surefooted horse. They have
long, thick, flowing manes that are never cut and often reach the ground; thick, extra long tails; and pronounced fetlock hair. The
color is always black...only a white star on the forehead is permissible; and their easy-going, gentle temperaments make them great
companions for riders of all ages.

|
Although the breed neared extinction in the late 1800's, thanks to the efforts of a few admirers, this truly magnificent breed has re-emerged
as a champion dressage and driving performance horse. Today, because of continued steady growth in number there are now approximately 1200
in North America. We are proud to be in that number.
